ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEMBER
Prof Saidou Madougou is the Director of the African Union Commission’s Department of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation (AUC/ESTI). He promotes education, science, technology, innovation and research, fosters educational cooperation among Member States, and supports youth participation in African integration. His mandate includes implementing Agenda 2063 initiatives and advancing continental education and science policies and strategies, including the Continental Education Strategy for Africa (CESA), the Science, Technology and Innovation Strategy for Africa (STISA), the African Continental TVET Strategy (CTVET), and the AU School Feeding Initiative. Prof Madougou champions educational reform, focusing on reducing learning poverty, improving literacy, expanding STEM education, and promoting applied scientific research to drive community development.
Before assuming his continental role in June 2024, Prof Madougou gained more than two decades of experience in education, scientific research and academic governance. He holds a PhD in Physics from the University Paul Sabatier, Toulouse, France, and a master’s degree in Educational Sciences from the University Louis Pasteur, Strasbourg, France.
Prof Madougou is a Full Professor at Abdou Moumouni University in Niamey, Niger, with nearly 20 years of academic and institutional leadership experience. He served as Director of the École Normale Supérieure and founded the African Centre of Excellence for Teaching and Learning Mathematics and Science (CEA/IEA-MS4SSA) and the Regional Programme for Supporting Education Quality in West Africa (PRAQUE_AO).
Prof Madougou has authored more than 70 scientific publications, participated in over 40 international scientific conferences, and supervised more than 10 PhD candidates. He has also served as General Rapporteur of the African and Malagasy Council for Higher Education (CAMES) Specialised Technical Committee for Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry (STC MPC).
He has been recognised as an Officer of the Order of Academic Palms of Niger and a Knight of the International Order of Academic Palms of CAMES.
